Even though we live in a day of convenience foods, mixes, and microwaves, many homemakers are turning to the almost lost art of baking from scratch, especially, their own breads. Whole wheat bread is a bit more difficult than making the traditional white bread, but the wonderful taste makes it worth the extra effort. If you've never made your own bread before, it may be advisable to begin with an easier white bread recipe.

Before you begin, I suggest you go online and find the right recipe for you. There are recipes for four loaves at a time or more. You'll find a number of whole wheat bread recipes to choose from. But no matter which one you choose you'll still need the basics like yeast, without this ingredient, there is no bread. There are three different types of yeast. One is active dry yeast, there's also instant and fresh. Active yeast is great for making pizzas, but many bakers don't suggest this for all dough recipes. Instant yeast (also known as rapid rise) doesn't have to be hydrated in water, and you only have to use 75% called for in recipes. This type of yeast can be added directly to the dough and is preferred by many bakers. You'll also spend less time waiting for your loaves to rise. Fresh yeast is a little harder to come by now, and doesn't keep well, most professional bakers refrain from using fresh and have switched over to rapid rise or active dry yeast.

Now you have chosen your recipe and picked your choice of yeast, you need to simply follow the instructions. Even when following the directions you may run into problems, such as the loaves rising more than they should, don't worry you can correct this by cutting around the dough to remove the excess, and use it to make rolls. Let rolls rise an extra 30 minutes and bake on oiled cookie sheet. Another common mistake is forgetting to add the salt. I personally leave salt out of many recipes, but when it comes to baking bread it is extremely necessary to enhance the flavor, so always be sure to add this ingredient. Put a big star by the salt ingredient on your recipe card to help you remember.

If you are using yeast that you have to hydrate, be certain of the temperature of the water, if it is too hot, you can kill the cells in the yeast. This is when a cooking thermometer comes in handy. If you come across air bubbles in your bread dough, you can remedy this by pinching together the air pockets together.

If you find you've made an over abundance of bread dough, you can wrap the extra in plastic wrap or in zip lock bags and store in refrigerator. The last main mistake is not watching the baking time, which can result in burning your loaves. The use of a kitchen timer can help. It's a handy little gadget to have through the whole bread baking process. Follow directions, make use of your timer and you should have a delicious loaf of whole wheat bread for your eating enjoyment.

Do you know what a bread maker or a bread machine is? It is a machine for making bread. If you always buy your bread from the supermarket, pay attention to the following information because after reading it, you may want to make your own bread.

Perhaps, when you were a child, you had the opportunity of eating homemade bread. Now you remember its wonderful aroma. To make bread at home it is not easy and takes some time but there is a solution for you: bread making machines. By buying a bread machine, you will be able to check what goes into the bread dough and to surprise your family with the most incredible aromatic bread. These machines have become very popular because they allow common people to prepare their own bread.

Most bread machines are similar in design and function. They seem to be a metal box (round, square or rectangular) with a programming panel. It has a stirring blade to prepare the dough and the pan where the bread will be baked. Its function is simple. You need to measure the ingredients in the pan and set the proper cycle for the recipe you have chosen.

They have different features according to the model and trademark. Despite that, most of them often make a special shaped loaf. They are also classified according to the weight of the bread they produce. Big machines make small loaves too. They are easy to clean because some of their parts are removable.

The cycle you choose will vary depending on the type of bread you intend bake. There is one called basic that is used to prepare white or rye breads. Breads made of whole grain flours will need a longer cycle. For sweet breads you should use a special cycle with separate time to add fruits, nuts etc. It is important to say that if you use the quick bake cycle on a bread making machine, it will result in flatter loaves and will need special yeast.

The bread making machine is an important invention but for some people it can be a nightmare. Check carefully if the one you want to buy works better with alternative flours. Use according to the manufacturer's recommendations. With so many varieties of bread making machines, it will be a little bit difficult to choose the right one for you. Therefore, you will have to search over the Internet to get information about trademarks and prices. They usually range from about $40 to $220 and different payment methods are available online.

Give yourself the possibility of eating again that fantastic bread that you used to eat when you were a child. Buy a bread making machine and start living a better life.

Bread Baking Tips for Artisan Bread

-Nowadays, there is a quick rising variety of yeast.

-For golden bread add eggs to the mixture.

-The most common liquid used in bread preparation is water but milk can be also used.

-If you have prepared too much bread, you can freeze the slices in individual plastic bags.

- Salt manages yeast's activity. It prevents breads from rising too quickly, The quantity of salt in a recipe can usually be reduced by as much as one-half, but it can't be skipped.

Anyone can make their own bread right at in the kitchen, and fill the house with the sweet aroma of freshly baked bread in the oven.

Before we dive head first into baking bread, let's make sure that we have all the fresh ingredients needed to make great bread. A French bread recipe is one of the easiest to start out with, and is also a delicious choice. First you have to measure the liquid called for in the recipe and make sure it is the right temperature called for, you can use a kitchen thermometer to be sure, then sprinkle the allotted amount of yeast over the liquid and let it set for a while, until the yeast bubbles to the top. After adding only a portion of flour into your mixing bowl, add the other ingredients and mix. Next, push into the middle of this mixture slightly to form a bowl shaped crevice, then pour in the remaining liquids, along with the dissolved yeast and mix. Now add the rest of your flour, slowly, while stirring the mixture until it becomes stiff and dough like.

After the mixing process has completed, the next step to baking bread is to place the dough on a floured surface and start kneading. It also helps if you put a little flour on your hands, this helps to keep the dough from sticking to your fingers. Then push into the dough with the palms of your hands, and fold the dough into quarters, keep doing this until the dough is no longer sticky, and there are no cracks, the same as you would for cookie dough, you want a nice smooth surface.

After the dough has been kneaded to a smooth, glossy surface without too many visible air bubbles, it's time to set it down and let it rise. Rising the bread dough can be done by placing it in a bowl that has been lightly greased; making sure all areas of the dough is rolled around in the bowl and has come in contact with the shortening or oil. Next place dough in a warm area, cover with a clean dish towel and leave it to rise, until the ball of dough is twice its size. Then remove it and punch the dough lightly with your fists and place back on floured service.

Finally, perhaps the most notable process in bread baking- to carefully place the dough into the loaf pans and bake as directed by your favorite bread making recipe. There are many good bread making recipes available with simple and easy to follow directions, for great tasting homemade bread the whole family will love. If you wish to make more than one loaf at a time, you may freeze the unbaked loaves in a heavy duty air-tight bag and you can freeze it for up to one month. One of the more popular baking trends have been made that freezing it right after the first rising gives you better results.
